Established in 1989, Boardwalk Optometry has two locations serving South Surrey, Guildford and the surrounding areas. Our family-run clinics take pride in being at the forefront in providing specialized diagnostic tests and innovative treatments for dry eye and myopia control. A hearing clinic was introduced into the South Surrey location in 2007, further expanding our services.
Dr. Kamachi’s passion for the eyes peaked in his fourth year with this question when he studied neurobiology at the University of British Columbia: How do our brains see? In 1984, after completing his Bachelor of Science, he continued his quest at the University of Waterloo in Ontario where he earned his Doctor of Optometry degree in 1988. He returned to his hometown of New Westminster where he became an associate in several local offices. Along with his wife, Daphne, he established Boardwalk Optometry first in the White Rock, and then in the North Surrey well over 30 years ago. All encompassing eye care health including physical and mental well being, stress relief, nutrition, eye protection, disease prevention, sports vision and myopia control are some of the important aspects of his patient care. When he is not in the office or serving on the Board of Examiners in Optometry, he enjoys tennis, volleyball, skiing and softball, quiet times with his bonsai trees in his garden, and of course travelling to far away places where he still ponders how our brains see.
Dr. Daphne Wong-Kamachi was born and raised in Ottawa, and earned her Doctor of Optometry at the University of Waterloo. After marrying Dr. Lindsay Kamachi in 1989, she moved to BC and they started a family in 1992. The last 35 years in practice have exceeded all her expectations by allowing her to have a meaningful impact on patient health and well-being, while still being able to enjoy and raise three "wonderful" children. Being passionate about treating dry eye disease, she introduced exciting cutting-edge treatments into Boardwalk Optometry, further enhancing patient care. In her spare time, Dr. Wong-Kamachi enjoys all things fitness related, but especially tennis and skiing, and hanging out with the kids.
Dr. Kyle Kamachi was born and raised in Surrey. He earned his Bachelor of Science in Physiology from McGill University in 2015 before completing his Doctor of Optometry at the Illinois College of Optometry in 2019. During his training, Dr. Kamachi provided primary eyecare at the Illinois Eye Institute in Chicago, and gained experience co-managing ocular disease at the Central Arkansas Veterans Affairs Hospital, and the Swagel Wootton Eye Institute in Arizona. In his spare time, you can find Dr. Kamachi trying new recipes, powerlifting and cheering on the Canucks.
Dr. Lauren B. Kamachi grew up in Surrey, then moved to New York to earn her Bachelors of Science in Biology at Stony Brook University. During her collegiate softball career, she earned First-Team All-Conference honors playing for Division 1 at Stony Brook University, and has played for Team BC. She then moved to Philadelphia and earned her Doctorate degree from the Pennsylvania College of Optometry at Salus University in 2020. Dr. Kamachi is passionate about providing full-scope optometric care to her patients, especially the pediatric population. Utilizing her experiences as a competitive athlete while understanding how the eyes are used in academics and athletics, she created the Vision Therapy and Sports Vision Performance Clinics at Boardwalk Optometry. In her free time, Dr. Kamachi enjoys playing sports, travelling, and spending time with loved ones.
Dr. Zachary Kamachi was born and raised in Surrey, BC. He earned his Bachelor of Science Honours in Life Sciences at Queen’s University in 2017, and his Doctor of Optometry degree at the Illinois College of Optometry in 2021. Prior to returning to beautiful British Columbia, Dr. Kamachi gained training and experience at Family Vision and Eyecare in Idaho, Commonwealth Eye Surgery in Kentucky, and the Illinois Eye Institute in Illinois. In his spare time, Dr. Kamachi enjoys fishing, cooking, camping, and spending quality time with family and friends.
Dr. Nicholas Wong was born and raised in New York City where he earned his Bachelor of Science in Chemistry in 2016 from CUNY Brooklyn College. He later graduated from the Pennsylvania College of Optometry in 2020, and went on to complete his Ocular Disease residency at Seidenberg Protzko Eye Associates in Maryland in 2021. During his residency, he managed ocular diseases while working with and learning from eye surgeons of various sub-specialties. Dr. Wong was also a sub-investigator for clinical trials, a mentor to student optometrists, and presented Continuing Education lectures. Having also worked closely with a corneal surgeon who primarily served the Chinese and Hispanic communities, he learned to conduct eye examinations in Cantonese, Mandarin, and Spanish. Dr. Wong enjoys playing basketball, dodgeball, and video games. But most of all, he enjoys being in the company of family and friends.
